Dr. Darla S. Hanley, Dean of the Professional Education Division at Berklee College of Music, holds a PhD and MM in Music Education Research (Temple University) and a BM in Music Education and Vocal Performance (dual major) from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell. She is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda.

Darla is an experienced PK–12 music educator and arts leader who specializes in jazz and popular music education, creative movement, teacher education, and administration. Darla has experience with Warner Bros., Spotify, the Country Music Association, the Jazz Education Network, the Association for Popular Music Education, and NAfME, to mention a few examples.

Darla has presented sessions in nearly all 50 USA states and often works with teachers and students all over the world. Examples of some of her recent presentations and professional engagement include the International Congress for Education (Peru), Hong Kong Baptist University (Hong Kong), Viljandi Culture Academy and Tartu University (Estonia), Liceu Conservatory (Spain), and SXSW.edu Conference (Austin, TX). She is always seeking to find ways to advance music education.
