Mark Small began his career as a music journalist in 1982 and has written hundreds of articles for such periodicals as Guitar Player, Acoustic Guitar, Soundboard, DownBeat, and the Ralph Vaughan Williams Society Journal. He served as managing editor of Berklee Today magazine at Berklee College of Music for twenty-six years. Small studied jazz guitar and composition at Berklee College of Music and earned his bachelor’s degree from New England Conservatory of Music and master’s from California State University (both in classical guitar). He has released nine albums and performed throughout the country with rock, jazz, and classical ensembles. He appeared in three international TV broadcasts with the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah. Small was commissioned by the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet to arrange Pat Metheny’s “Letter from Home” for their GRAMMY-winning album Guitar Heroes. His guitar compositions are published by Les Productions d’Oz of Quebec, Canada. Small lives in Foxborough, MA, with his wife MaryAnn. The couple has two daughters and six grandchildren.
